A First Attempt

I have been planning on making John a cute outfit for a while and finally finished it tonight. I had grand plans of something wonderful, which is hard to do for a boy!! Everything I find online is for girls. However, this is what I came up with. Not quite as grand as I would have liked, but not bad for a first try!

I got the shirt from Carters for about $3. I took off the pocket and spruced it up with appliques. The 'T' is my first attempt with 'reverse applique'. It is actually pretty easy but I of course made a couple of non-fixable mistakes. I can file that away for next time, but until then John's garment will be less than perfect. I even put in a layer of soft interfacing on the back so that it is nice and smooth for John's precious skin. I am getting so fancy!

The shorts are from an old pair of Abercrombie pants that I got when I was in college. I figure that I am not going to be anywhere near college-body shape in the next century, so those pants were fair game for the chopping block. Again, a couple mistakes that were fortunately fixable, but unfortunately I was too lazy to actually fix them. I haven't tried them on him yet, but I did use a pair of his shorts for sizing so am hoping they fit. (And before you think I am a total novice at sewing, the shorts aren't crooked like they seem in the picture. They are just kind of pushed up in the picture. geez guys...I am not that bad!)

I will try this outfit with John on Saturday when we are in the privacy of our own home. If it is actually decent, then we might venture out in public with it.

And since John is just too cute for words, here is a picture to end the post.
